The Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash Narayan Airport ( IATA code : PAT; ICAO code : VEPT) even Patna Airport is a commercial airport 5 km southwest of Patna , the state capital of Bihar in India . It is named after the independence activist Jayaprakash Narayan . It ranks 16th among the largest airports in India, and annual passenger traffic increased by 30.6 percent from 2018 to 2019 to over 4 million passengers. In order to meet the demand, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is currently working on the expansion and modernization of the airport infrastructure.

During the expansion, the area of ​​the terminal building will be increased from currently 7,200 square meters to 57,000 square meters. The new terminal building at Patna Airport will be a two-storey building equipped with six passenger boarding bridges and an apron on which 14 aircraft can be parked. Currently only six aircraft can be parked at the airport.

In Patna, a new airport is currently (as of 2019) under construction for relief, which is scheduled to go into operation in 2022.

Incidents

On July 17, 2000, an Alliance Air Boeing 737-200 ( aircraft registration number VT-EGD) crashed near the airport after making a left turn too slowly on approach and stalling . In the crash, 55 of the 58 people on board and five people died on the ground.
