The Zanzibar Airport , officially Abeid Amani Karume International Airport , also known as Kisauni Airport (ger .: Zanzibar Airport Iceland) is the only airport on the main island of Unguja in Zanzibar , Tanzania .
General
The Zanzibar International Airport, which previously existed here, was rehabilitated in 1994 (opened on April 1, 1995). It is located about eight kilometers south of the center of Stone Town and corresponds to the quality standards of other African airports such as Dar es Salaam Airport . It has 3 international departure gates, none of which is equipped with a boarding bridge.
The former state-run airport is now privately managed. In 2013 a new terminal building is under construction, which should be opened in 2014, but is still under construction in May 2019.
Airlines and Destinations
There are regular connections to the Tanzanian mainland, to Pemba and to East African destinations, but also to Asia and Europe. There are also charter airlines such as Condor , which fly to Zanzibar and thus create important feeder traffic to Europe. Flydubai , Oman Air and Qatar Airways serve the airport several times a week from Dubai , Muscat and Doha .
