The Suai Airport since 2017 Airport Comandante-em Chefe Estado the FALINTIL Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão , the airport of the East Timorese town of Suai , capital of the municipality of Cova Lima on the south coast of Timor . The airport is located near the village of Holbelis in Suco Labarai .
There is currently no regular scheduled service. Around 1970 Suai was served by Transportes Aéreos de Timor .
From May 30, 2014 until its reopening on June 19, 2017, the original airfield was expanded and finally given the new name after the former head of FALINTIL and politician Xanana Gusmão . The conversion of the 1220 m² area into an airport for international flights cost 67,691,189.85 US dollars.
Before the renovation, the airport had an asphalt runway 1053 meters long and 19.3 meters wide and was already suitable for aircraft up to the size of a Lockheed C-130 . The runway is now 1,500 m long, there is a terminal, a control tower, a fire station, a weather station and a helicopter landing pad with a medical area for the flights of the sick and injured.
Northern Oil & Gas Australia (NOGA) has been flying the route between Darwin and Suai since 2018 .
