The Aérodrome d'Auxerre-Branches or the Aéroport d'Auxerre is an airfield of General Aviation in the French region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It is located in the Yonne department just under nine km northwest of Auxerre in the area of the municipalities of Branches , Charbuy and Appoigny .

history

Aviation began very early in Auxerre, back in 1911, but between Auxerre and Monéteau in the “Plaine des Isles” area. In 1922 an air day was held there for the first time and in 1932 the airfield was rededicated as a military airfield . The civil Aéro Club de l'Yonne was initially able to use it. During the Second World War, the airfield was expanded by the German occupation forces. One of the few task forces stationed here was the staff and 1st group of Jagdgeschwader 27 for a few days in mid-June 1940 . At the beginning of March 1945, the Armée de l'air opened their Base École des Télécommunications 723 (BES 723), a training facility for telecommunications. The Navy also incorporated its telecommunications section into the school. When this was dissolved in 1960, the old airfield was named Base Aérienne 177 (BA 177) and served as the location of the school for general services until 1970. The base was closed in 1970 and the school facilities were also used by the gendarmerie for training purposes until 2009.

As a replacement for the Auxerre-Monéteau airfield, today's Auxerre-Branches airfield was created, which was operated by the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce until 2015.
