The airport Paderborn-Mönkeloh was the first airfield in the East Westphalian town of Paderborn in today's North Rhine-Westphalia . The airfield was used as a military airfield in both World Wars and also briefly for civilian use in the period before the Second World War . It was built in 1916 east of Borchener Straße to Kirchborchen south of today's B 64 .

history

For the history of the German Air Force from the beginning to the withdrawal of the Air Force at the end of March 1945, see the articles linked below.

After their arrival in the first days of April 1945, the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) used Airfield Y.97 , its allied code name, Mönkeloh until the beginning of June 1945 as a provisional supply and evacuation field . With the cessation of flight operations by the USAAF, the military use of Paderborn-Mönkeloh ended.
