The civil airfield Flugplatz Wiener Neustadt / Ost is located northeast of the city of Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria . The airport is operated by the aircraft manufacturer Diamond Aircraft . The airfield has an asphalt runway 1067 meters long. It is the location of various flight clubs and schools.
It is an uncontrolled airfield where arrivals and departures are only possible under visual flight conditions . However, there is a so-called “cloud breaking procedure” in which an instrument approach is possible up to a height of approx. 420 m above the ground. The usual operating times are from 9:00 local time to ECET , at the latest until 22:00 local time. Exceptions to this are possible with the prior approval of the airport operations manager. Wednesday has become unofficially naturalized as a night flight day.
The Aviaticum flight museum is attached to the airfield, which provides an overview of Austrian flight history in many exhibits.
The area of the Civitas Nova adjacent to the Wiener Neustadt / Ost airfield is also used for open-air concerts.
The company Schiebel is also based here.
The airfield has also been one of the locations of the Christophorus Air Rescue Association since 1984 with the two helicopters Christophorus 3 and Christophorus 33 ITH . However, this is managed as a separate airfield with the identifier LOAW . A separate approach procedure is also installed here.
