Flumserberg

Flumserberg is a winter sports and hiking area in the south of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland . The alpine area is located southeast of Flums and the Walensee between 1220  m and 2222  m above sea level. M. The Flumserberg includes various localities, hamlets and farms. The most important are Tannenheim (approx. 1200  m above sea level ), Tannenbodenalp (approx. 1350  m above sea level ) and Bergheim (approx. 950  m above sea level ). According to a previously more common meaning of the word mountain , the Flumserberg is not a mountain peak above Flums, but an alp on the slope above the village of Flums.

Divided into different areas, the Flumserberg is part of the political communities of Flums and Quarten and belongs to the local communities Flums-Grossberg - one of the three local communities of Flums along with the village and the Kleinberg southeast of the Schilzbachthales - and Oberterzen and the Alpkooperation Mols .

history

A health resort was built on the Prodalp in 1880. At the end of the 19th century, the construction of a mountain road began in the Grossberg area. However, a further touristic development of the area did not start until the 20th century.

The Unterterzen – Flumserberg aerial cableway connects Unterterzen on Lake Walen with the Flumserberg, and from Flums it is accessible by a post bus line.

Mountain railways and tourism

The ski area comprises 18 lifts, three valley runs, two fun parks, two children's areas, 18 kilometers of trails, winter hiking trails and a toboggan run. A gondola lift leads from Tannenheim to the Prodalp ( 1576  m above sea level ) and from there a chairlift continues to the Prodkamm ( 1945  m above sea level ). A gondola lift leads from Tannenbodenalp to the Maschgenkamm ( 2008  m above sea level ). The highest point in the ski area is the Leist ( 2222  m above sea level ).

An easily accessible destination for summer and winter hikes is the Seebenalp ( 1620  m above sea level ), about four kilometers southwest of the Tannenbodenalp.

Various mountain peaks can be reached from the Maschgenkamm mountain station in summer on hikes and in winter on ski tours, including the Magerrain ( 2524  m above sea level ), the Spitzmeilen ( 2501  m above sea level ) and the Wissmilen ( 2481  m above sea level ) . ). The Spitzmeilenhütte ( 2087  m above sea level ) is about two hours' walk south of the mountain railway. The Murgseen ( 1820  m above sea level ) in the southwest are much further away.

Flumserberg Open Air

An open-air concert for pop music has been held every year on the Tannenbodenalp (approx. 1400 m) since 2007 . The event was organized in Walenstadt from 2000 to 2006 . In 2010 the festival was visited by more than 20,000 spectators. In other years, well over 10,000 people and prominent musicians come to the event.
