The Magerrain ( 2524  m above sea level ) is the highest mountain in the Spitzmeilen group, part of the Glarus Alps in Switzerland . It lies on the border between the Swiss cantons of Glarus and St. Gallen . The summit sends three distinctive ridges to the north, south-east and west; the canton border runs over the latter two.

To the northeast, the mountain shows a rocky, steep flank, the south face drops almost vertically for the first few meters. Only from the north-west does the mountain appear less repellent, there it rises first flat with a grass slope, then steep and then flatter again at the end. This side also offers the only easier way to climb.

Although the Magerrain is 22 meters higher than the Spitzmeilen , which is about 1.5 kilometers southeast , it is somewhat overshadowed by this in terms of popularity and development.

In contrast to many of the peaks towering in its west ridge, which consist of Verrucano , the Magerrain is made of limestone .
