history

In 1903 the first wooden mountain hut was built. Despite the initial skepticism of many members of the Piz Sol SAC section about the young ski sport , a winter shelter was built, funded by a request from Glarus and financially supported by the builder and passionate mountain hiker Heinrich Spoerry from Flums. The aim was to create accommodation for skiers for the first time in Switzerland. At the beginning of August, the construction was decided by the section, the local community Flums-Grossberg steered the land for the construction site. At the beginning of October 1903 construction work began and on December 20 the wooden hut with a shingle roof for 24 people was completed; the inauguration took place a week later.

As a result, the hut was rebuilt and expanded several times. In 1951 there was a kitchen. In 1971 the hut was expanded to 56 places. In 1999, a 1100 meter long material ropeway with a mast was built, with which the last steep 430 meters to the hut are overcome.

In 2007 the old hut was torn down and a new building was built within six months. The new cube is made of wood. On the upper floor there are seven bedrooms and the washrooms. In addition to the lounge and kitchen, the lodge keeper's accommodation is on the ground floor. The winter room is located in the basement. The hut has its own spring, from whose water energy is obtained.
