The Wülfel river bathing establishment in Hanover was a municipal bathing establishment in the 20th century , which was maintained as a river bathing establishment on the Leine in the Wülfel district of Hanover . The location of the sports facility was the address of the Lower Saxony Paddling Club (PkN) at Wilkenburger Strasse 38 .

history

The river bathing establishment in Wülfel was already in operation at the beginning of the 20th century before the industrial suburb of Wülfel at the time was incorporated into Hanover on October 1, 1907.

After the seizure of power by the Nazis in 1933, the association founded Paddle Club Lower Saxony in November of the same year on the grounds between the river bathhouse and the nature reserve " at the pleasure " in the mash meadows.

As a result of the air raids on Hanover in World War II , most of the city's sports facilities, such as the Goseriedebad or public bathing establishments, were so destroyed by aerial bombs that people who would like to swim in Hanover went either to the river bathing facility in Wülfel or the brine bath in Badenstedt as early as the time of the British military government from summer 1945 had to open.

As a result of the economic growth in the post-war period , the pollution of the Leine with environmental toxins had increased so much that the river bathing establishment in Wülfel had to be closed on July 10, 1954 as the last remaining river bathing establishment in the Lower Saxony state capital. Part of the grounds of the bathing establishment was now leased by the Lower Saxony Paddling Club , which built a boat shed and other buildings in place of the old buildings of the bathing establishment, some of which still exist today.
