The Tübinger Strasse river power plant is a run-of-river power plant in Rottenburg am Neckar and uses the water of the Neckar . The name of the power plant is derived from the road that leads directly past the power plant. The power plant also serves as a pedestrian bridge.

history

The small hydropower plant was built in 1967 as part of the flood protection of the city of Rottenburg and generated 6 GWh of electricity annually  with an output of 1  MW . A fish ladder was built in 1995 to ensure passage for fish and other aquatic life . In 2001 the power plant was rebuilt, including building a new power house and installing new turbines, but the old weir was still used for the new power plant. The renovation was expected to increase annual electricity production by 30%. The renovation costs amounted to around 3.5 million euros . The renewed power plant by Stadtwerke Rottenburg am Neckar was commissioned in February 2002. In 2009 the weir was renovated for around two million euros. The operating license for the power plant will expire in 2049.

technology

The two Kaplan-bulb turbines generate a volume flow rate of each of 14 m³ / s, and a drop height of 5.80 m in each case an electric power of 630  kW . The power plant only uses a small part of the water in the Neckar.

The weir is designed for a design flood of 640 m³ / s. The approx. 24 m wide weir is designed as a roof weir and in this form the largest in Europe. On the left side of the river there is a combination structure consisting of bypass water and vertical slot pass to aid fish crossing.

economics

The power plant generates electricity with a value of around 400,000 euros annually (as of 2009).

Incidents

  • A roof fire on April 26, 1999 caused damage of around DM 30,000 (today, adjusted for inflation, corresponds to around EUR 20,000).
