action

The surgeon Katrin Berger works successfully as a manager in the pharmaceutical industry. Due to an unsuccessful operation, the trauma of which Katrin could not overcome, the doctor became a businesswoman. At that time she not only left her dream job, but also her great love Max Berger.

After fifteen years, the two meet again by chance and when Katrin feels for him again as she did then, the two marry. Since she cannot fly to Africa with him immediately, she follows him to Namibia a short time later, where he lives with his two children after the death of his wife and together with his friend, Sam Vanderloo, set up the “Guguletho” bush hospital.

When Katrin arrives at the airport, she is surprised that she is not picked up. So she takes a taxi to the bush hospital and learns that Max had a fatal accident in the jeep. Katrin is devastated and wants to fly back to Germany immediately after the funeral. But first the two children Max left behind have to find out about the accident. Since they have only just returned from a holiday camp and are not yet aware of the tragedy, Katrin involuntarily takes on this task. That was a mistake, because now the two reject the "white woman" even more.

Makhulu has been taking care of her since her mother's death and she had previously turned the children against her new mother. Katrin learns from Sam Vanderloo that according to African law, the children are now under the guardianship of the state and they would have to go to boarding school if Katrin were to go back to Germany. But with all the cold that hits her from the children and Makhulu, she thinks she can hardly stand it. Only Sam encourages her to be there for Neo and Lindiwe so they don't have to leave their usual home. Trusting what Max would have wanted, she decides to stay.

Gradually she succeeds in gaining acceptance from the children. Sam likes that Katrin tries to reach the hearts of the children and he is also glad that Katrin is useful as a nurse in the hospital. However, she does not want to operate again at any cost.

That changes when Neo needs help. An acute rupture of the appendix forces Katrin to pick up a scalpel again after years. Although it is difficult for her to conquer her fear, Makhulu unexpectedly helps her with her spiritual powers. The successful operation not only saved Neo's life, but also finally got over her trauma. So Katrin decides to stay in Namibia and take over the vacant doctor's position in the hospital. Since Makhulu has also recognized what is better for the children, she frees the space in their hearts for her new mother.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv draws the following verdict on this film: “It is once again the love that a medicin ends up in Namibia in the Degeto stirring piece 'Follow your heart'. Christine Neubauer, inevitable in the 2000s, follows her childhood sweetheart, whom fate soon snatches from her. With Francis Fulton-Smith, a replacement will be ready soon, but his widow comforter competence will only be used in the two follow-up films 'Forever Africa' (2007) and 'Africa in the Heart' (2008). "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs straight) and said: "Heartfelt fateful drama with an exotic touch."
