Folkbert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Folkbert (Latin Folcbertus ) was (presumably) bishop of the Danish dioceses of Ribe and Schleswig in the 10th century .

Life

Its origin is unknown, and exact dates of life are also uncertain. The Chronicon Ripense names a Folkbert or Fulbert as the second bishop of Ribe after Leofdag , who became bishop in 948 and was murdered only a few years later. After the Cronica ecclesiae Ripensis he never took office.

The catalog of the bishops of Schleswig from the 11th century also lists a Folkbert as the third bishop of Schleswig after Hored and Adaldag , who was in office from about 984 to 991. It is probably the same sequel that, according to Adam von Bremen , was consecrated bishop by Archbishop Adaldag of Hamburg . However, Adam von Bremen wrote in the 11th century that he did not know for which diocese he was ordained. Folkbert did not mention Saxo Grammaticus in the 12th century. Folkbert, however, is certainly attested on March 18, 988, when he was the envoy of Archbishop Adaldag of Hamburg to King Otto III. stayed to confirm privileges for the dioceses of Schleswig, Århus , Ribe and Odense .

The catalog of the Schleswig bishops names the 19th calendar year of Ianuarii as the date of death.
