Folkearth is an international music project of various folk and viking metal musicians, which was founded in 2003. The name ( Folk + earth) symbolizes that it is folk from musicians all over the world. So far, seven full-length albums have been released.
history
The history of the group started in February 2003, when the creation of the project, which could unite musicians from different countries, folk and pagan metal idea, was born by some musicians. The band was founded in 2003 as the idea of Ruslanas "Metfolvik" Danisevskis (Ravenclaw) from Lithuania, who approached bands that were friends and asked whether they would like to take part in this project. With Magnus Wohlfart from Nae'blis as composer, Wulfstan and Athelstan from Forefather as multi-instrumentalists and Mario "Prince Imrahil" Koutsoukos as lyricist, a first line-up was available. In the months that followed, numerous other musicians were found, so that in spring 2004 the recordings for their first album A Nordic Poem could begin. Originally the album was supposed to be around 60 minutes long, but some of the recorded tracks were lost, so A Nordic Poem only has 40 minutes playing time. Since the quality of the album was very poor, it was decided to remix the recordings and then release them again. Shortly after A Nordic Poem was released, the next album By the Sword of My Father was released. With this album even more bands were involved in the production of the album, u. a. Van Langen, Thiasos Dionysos, Hildr Valkyrie, Death Army , The Soil Bleeds Black , so that the line-up now consisted of 31 musicians from 8 different countries. When Drakkars in the Mist was released in 2007, Folkearth had the largest line-up to date. Around 30 musicians worked on the album Father of Victory again. Depending on your point of view, the number of musicians involved in an album is exaggerated, as a musician has only worked on a single song several times, but is still referred to as a full member of the band. Folkearth is not a commercial project; H. Making a profit is not the top priority, and the band does almost no advertising / promotion, which is probably due to a lack of money.
Due to the complex structure of Folkearth, there hasn't been a single gig yet and it probably never will.
style
Due to the structure of Folkearth, the recordings are different from "normal" bands. Each song begins with a single track from one of the members of Folkearth and little by little each of the other musicians adds their own track. Sometimes the starting point for a song is a single riff or melody; but sometimes one of the musicians writes the whole song alone and the other members only add subtleties. Usually several musicians write a song together in small groups and pass the notes or the recording on to the next member or the next small group. Musically, Folkearth can be clearly assigned to Folk / Viking Metal , but they use an above-average number of folkloric instruments such as the lute , nyckelharpa , shawm , saz and others. Since there is no joint songwriting, the albums sound more like compilations . Some songs, especially the newer ones, are also very black metal- heavy, which should not be understood negatively.
Lyrics
The lyrics are all in English , except for "Gryningssång". The main themes in the texts are the history, beliefs and mythology of the Vikings , Celts and Greeks . The songs tell stories and are meant to entertain. It is not intended to convey a personal or general message.
