Position and extent

Robert Rauschenberg Riding Bikes , Berlin, 1998

The Weinhaus Huth was originally located directly on the (old) Linkstrasse. In the course of the redevelopment of Potsdamer Platz, this received a new route that was shifted parallel to the east and the open space behind the wine house was redesigned as Fontaneplatz. The square is located between the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden shopping center and Potsdamer Platz 11 (originally: Forum Tower), in front of the Weinhaus Huth with a view of Tilla-Durieux-Park . There is a pedestrian passage to Alte Potsdamer Strasse. Because of repeated damage from vandalism , the sculpture Riding Bikes by Pop Art artist Robert Rauschenberg , which belongs to the art collection of Daimler-Benz AG , had to be removed .

Naming

The square has been named after the writer Theodor Fontane since December 13, 1997 .
