The Potsdamer Platz Arkaden shopping center is part of the Potsdamer Platz quarter in the Mitte district of Berlin .
description
The Potsdamer Platz Arkaden opened on October 2nd, 1998. The 133 shops, restaurants, cafés and bars, which are open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., are spread over three levels with a sales area of around 40,000 square meters. 1000 employees are employed in the shopping center, whose branch mix is strongly dominated by textile suppliers (52.7 percent). Around 42,000 visitors come to the arcades every day. Their total catchment area is estimated at around 4.25 million people, and Potsdamer Platz is also a popular place with tourists. In November 2018 it became known that a comprehensive renovation of the arcades was being planned. The renovation work began in spring 2020.
architecture

The Potsdamer Platz Arkaden is part of a 19-part building complex that was created based on the ideas of an international team of architects. The Italian Renzo Piano was in charge, and he helped design the Center Pompidou . With Potsdamer Platz he wanted to create a “European-looking city quarter” and shaped its appearance through terracotta facades, among other things.
Infrastructure
The building is integrated into the Berlin public transport system and can be easily reached with the lines of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association . A parking garage for 4000 vehicles is also available to visitors to the arcades .
