Source, course of estuary, geology, geography

The Forachgraben begins at water kilometers (GwKm) 0.52 and flows in a straight line from south-east to north-west , about 350 m of this canalised below street level.

After the last open areas of the upper part of the Forachgraben were piped in 2011, this approximately 350 m long area can only be described as alien. In the lower area, the last 160 m before the confluence with the Karlsgraben, relocation and renaturation was carried out to replace the piping in the upper area. The renaturation project was supported by the water life fund and the project was the Vorarlberg winning project of the water life fund in 2011. Four biotopes were created in which fish, amphibians and other small and microorganisms found their habitat. The Forachgraben is heavily thinned in the upper area during longer dry periods, in the lower area it is more or less supplied with water by the Karlsgraben. The ditch has no relevant tributaries and flows out at around 406  m above sea level. A. at GwKm 0.50 in the Karlsgraben.

The Forachgraben flows entirely through the municipality of Dornbirn and the Rohrbach district, Forach district , from which the name of the trench was derived. The trench was not used economically for mechanical drives. The Forachgraben also served to drain the reed.
