The Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI) is a neoconservative think tank based in Washington, DC , founded in 2009 by Bill Kristol , Dan Senor and Robert Kagan .

The Foreign Policy Initiative publishes bulletins on a wide variety of foreign policy topics on an ongoing basis.

According to its own admission, the FPI has made the defense of political isolationism and the continuation of the diplomatic, military and economic engagement of the USA in the world as well as robust support for democratic allies and human rights in oppressive regimes its mission as well as strengthening the US armed forces for the challenges of the 21st century as well as the global competitiveness of the US economy in times of global upheaval . Foreign Policy Initiative is non-profit making and tax exempt.

FPI is against regular cuts in armaments spending and calls for a comprehensive missile defense system .

history

The FPI is considered the successor organization to the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) and was founded like this by William Kristol, Irving Kristol's son . Jamie Fly served as FPI director from 2009 until he became advisor to Florida Senator Marco Rubio. In early 2013, Chris Griffin, a former employee of Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, was hired.

FPI has campaigned for troop reinforcements in Afghanistan and direct military strikes in Syria. In 2012, Robert Kagan stated that the FPI was calling for military action against Iran because diplomacy was inappropriate. In 2014, FPI recommended democratic and economic reforms for long-term success for the Arab Spring states . Griffin described Russia's annexation of Crimea as part of a trend resulting from the lack of American leadership and increasing pressure on America's international leadership. On April 10, 2013, he announced on NBC that North Korea had taught the US that it did not know how to protect its citizens and allies from a nuclear-armed " rogue state ".

On October 3, 2014, FPI Director for Democracy and Human Rights Ellen Bork called for the US to support Hong Kong.
