The Formarinsee is a high mountain lake in the Lechquellen Mountains in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . At an altitude of 1793  m above sea level. A. the lake is in close proximity to the Rote Wand and the mountain Formaletsch in the municipality of Dalaas .

The lake is formed from meltwater every year. Its drainage subterranean - under the red wall - the European watershed.

The Formarinbach , one of the two source rivers of the Lech , has its source very close to the lake . Although the name of the brook and the lake is identical, the former does not originate from the Formarinsee. North of the lake is the Formarinalpe, south of the water is the Freiburger Hütte , from where a demanding, exposed climb that requires climbing leads to the Rote Wand.

As part of the ORF TV program 9 Places - 9 Treasures , the Formarinsee with the Rote Wand - 2 km north of the lake - was voted the most beautiful place in Austria on October 24, 2015. The year before, a meltwater lake was also chosen, the Green Lake in Tragöß in Styria.
