Release agent
Release agents should keep adjacent materials separable. Many release agents are also used as lubricants .
They are often used to prevent cast or molded parts from sticking to the mold during molding processes ( mold release agents ) or to prevent bulk goods or foodstuffs from sticking ( product release agents ) .
Examples:
- Wax on plastic molds
- Assembly paste for easier assembly and disassembly as well as against contact corrosion
- Hot screw compound as an assembly paste for machine parts that are exposed to high temperatures; also referred to as [graphite paste ] or copper paste ; In addition to non-ferrous metals (copper, aluminum, zinc), it can also contain ceramic substances such as titanium nitride ; Silicone greases or PTFE compounds serve as the carrier substance
- Maize flour or calcium powder as a release agent in sheet-fed offset printing
- Formwork oil , used in concrete construction to separate the concrete from the casting mold ( formwork )
- Silicone oils as release agents in die casting machines
- Talc prevents latex and rubber from sticking together , e.g. B. mature in rubber hoses of vehicles
- Talc when pouring tin with silicone molds and soot when casting tin with metal molds.
Food sector
Release agents in the food sector often contain waxes , wax esters or fats , so they are hydrophobic .
Emulsifiers can be included to improve the distribution of release agents and antioxidants .
The application of the release agent is called separating . In spray cans bottled mold release agent for baking are called cooking spray , release spray or baking spray sold.
Product release agent:
- Corn starch , beeswax or carnauba wax on gummy bears
- Trickling aids in table salt
- Calcium phosphate (E 341) in some powdered foods such as B. Coffee creamer to prevent the powder from clumping
Mold release agent:
- Butter , oil or margarine are used to grease baking tins to prevent cake batter from sticking
- Flour prevents bread dough from sticking
- Baking paper prevents food from sticking to baking and baking trays
- Teflon prevents sticking and caking even at higher temperatures
