The Fort Nelson River is a 250 km (517 km including the Sikanni Chief River ) long right tributary of the Liard River in British Columbia .

It drains an area of ​​55,900 km² and is created by the union of the rivers Fontas River and Sikanni Chief River. It was named after the city of Fort Nelson and flows mainly through flat land. The main tributaries of the Fort Nelson River are the Sahtaneh River and the Muskwa River .
