The Foss River is a river in King County in Washington State . It has two main source rivers, the East Fork Foss River and the West Fork Foss River. The main stream is formed by the confluence of the two headwaters, which arise nearby in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in the Cascade Range , and flows generally northwards, merging with the Tye River to form the South Fork Skykomish River . The waters of the Foss River then flow over the Skykomish River and Snohomish River into Puget Sound near Everett .
East Fork
The East Fork Foss River has its source at 47 ° 34 ′ 41 " N , 121 ° 10 ′ 53" W ; it is the meltwater runoff of the Lynch Glacier on the northern slope of Mount Daniel . Several streams flow into it from the glaciers of the northern slopes of Mount Hinman; in addition, it is increasing tributaries from the lakes of the Necklace Valley such as Lake Ilswoot, Locket Lake, Opal Lake, La Bohn Lake, and others. The East Fork Foss River generally flows north and merges with the West Fork to form the main stream of the Foss River.
West Fork
The West Fork Foss River rises at 47 ° 33 ′ 29 ″ N , 121 ° 17 ′ 24 ″ W from a small glacial lake on the north side of Iron Cap Mountain. It flows north through a series of lakes (Otter Lake, Delta Lake, Trout Lake). Its numerous tributaries also flow through several lakes in the heart of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The West Fork leaves the lake region generally flowing northwards and merges with the East Fork to form the main stream of the Foss River.
