history
Isadore Sharp ("Issy") founded the luxury hotel group in 1960 with the opening of the first Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Toronto (Jarvis Street).
At the beginning of the 1990s, the financially troubled hotel group The Regent was bought. With very few exceptions, the noble domiciles were transformed into hotels belonging to the parent company, Four Seasons. Regent houses under construction, such as the Milan Hotel, opened under the Four Seasons Hotels logo.
In November 1997, Carlson Hospitality Worldwide acquired the rights to The Regent . Four Seasons retained licenses to the international Regent Hotels in Kuala Lumpur , Singapore , Taipei and Los Angeles and operates them under the name The Regent .
In 2004 a hotel was given up for the first time in the company's history. The Four Seasons Hotel in Berlin was closed due to the price war in the Berlin hotel industry and failed contract negotiations for the property. Today the Rezidor Hotel Group runs the hotel under the name The Regent Berlin .
In 2007, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and the Saudi Arabian investor and multi-billionaire Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud took over the Canadian hotel group Four Seasons for an estimated US $ 3.7 billion. Company founder Isadore Sharp retains a 10 percent stake in Four Seasons.
