Frédéric Adam (born August 11, 1973 in Lorient ) is a former French football player .

Career

Adam was trained at Stade Brest , where he was initially included in the third-rate reserve team in 1990. Due to financial problems, the first team had to accept relegation to the third division in 1992 and the loss of the previous professional players. As a result, the previous reserve players ran for them. They fought for promotion to the second division , but failed at the Breton rival Stade Saint-Brieuc . Nevertheless, Adam made the leap to the higher division in 1993 when Stade Rennes signed him. However, he made only five appearances in his first season, as Jean-Luc Vasseur was set on his position in defensive midfield. Despite everything, he had a share in the promotion to the first division . At the same time, the French U-20 took part in the Jeux de la Francophonie in 1994 . As in the previous season, he played mainly in the second team in 1994/95 and did not make his first division debut in the professional team. Therefore, he decided in 1995 to return to the second division with his move to LB Châteauroux . There he played much more often, even if he did not become a regular player. In 1997 he celebrated promotion with the team and his first division debut in the following season. In total, he played 21 times in the top division before he had to accept relegation in 1998.

He left Châteauroux and signed with second division rivals ES Troyes AC . In Troyes he occupied a regular place for the first time in his career. In his first season he was able to move up with the team in the first division, where he remained a regular player and achieved relegation with his club. The season 2000/01 brought a semi-finals, in which the team only on penalties at SC Amiens , as well as a seventh place in the league with it, which resulted in participation in the UI Cup . About this Troyes was able to qualify for the UEFA Cup , where the club narrowly failed in the second round to Leeds United . Despite this success, the 2001/02 season meant a setback for Adam, as he did not find his way back to the team after an injury that had enough alternatives for him. Thanks to the new coach Jacky Bonnevay , however , he came back to regular assignments in the following season. At the same time, the season brought after four years of first class relegation to the second division. Although the team managed to get promoted again after two years in 2005, Adam lost his regular place to the young Blaise Matuidi after the promotion . He made the decision to turn his back on Troyes after eight years and signed with second division FC Gueugnon in 2006 . Although he was first a regular in Gueugnon and also played regularly for the club in his second season, he ended his career in 2008 when he was relegated to the third division.

He then returned to Troyes, where he studied sports management. He then took over the post of sports director at ES Troyes AC in 2010 and was also an advisor to President Daniel Masoni. He was released in April 2012.
