Frédéric Lambelet

Frédéric ("Fritz") Lambelet (born May 18, 1817 in Les Verrières ; † January 28, 1876 in Neuchâtel ) was a Swiss politician and trader . From 1848 to 1854 and from 1855 to 1857 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

Lambelet headed in Neuchâtel a major department store for groceries , which he had inherited from his father. The Canton of Neuchâtel belonged to the Congress of Vienna, namely to Switzerland, but was at the same time a principality of Prussia . In March 1848, the supporters of the republic overthrew the government of the Prussian governor Ernst von Pfuel . Lambelet presided over the Republican Committee of Les Verrières during the Revolution and headed the Provisional Judiciary and Police Committee. In the same year, he was involved in drafting the new cantonal constitution as a constitutional councilor.

From 1848 to 1853 Lambelet was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Neuchâtel. In the first national elections in October 1848 he was elected to the National Council. From 1852 he chaired a parliamentary commission that dealt with the future connection of the canton of Neuchâtel to the railway network in Switzerland and France . He did not run for the elections in October 1854, but moved to the National Council four months later in a by-election . After his final resignation in 1857, Lambelet worked as vice director of the Compagnie Franco-Suisse , which opened its first line in 1859.
