Frédéric Roux (born June 27, 1973 in Nancy ) is a former French football goalkeeper .

Career

The French goalkeeper comes from the youth department of AS Nancy , his hometown. For this club, he made his professional debut in Ligue 1 on September 28, 1996 against SC Bastia . By 1999 Roux completed 75 games for Nancy and was then loaned to the second division club LB Châteauroux for one season , for which he ran up 36 times. In 2001 he moved to the five-time French champion Girondins Bordeaux . There he could not prevail against the first goalkeeper Ulrich Ramé and came in six years to only 19 missions. In 2002 he won the Coupe de la Ligue with Bordeaux . In 2006, Frédéric Roux moved to AC Ajaccio , who had been relegated to Ligue 2 in the previous season . There he was a regular goalkeeper for one season before he left the club again in August 2007. The reigning champions Olympique Lyon had originally signed Roux as a replacement for Grégory Coupet , who was seriously injured with a torn knee ligament . However, he never got a job at Olympique. Instead, he lost the competition against the previous substitute goalkeeper Rémy Vercoutre and could only watch the championship and cup win from the bench. After Lyon signed another promising goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for the 2008/09 season , Roux left the club and ended his career.
