François-Régis de Martrin-Donos OCR (born October 13, 1808 in Valence , † May 13, 1880 in Montbeton ) was a French Trappist .

Life

De Martrin-Donos was originally a secular priest . In 1841 he entered the Trappist Abbey of Aiguebelle , where he made his profession in 1842 and later became a novice master . In 1843 he was sent to Algeria (twenty kilometers west of Algiers ) as head of the Staouëli foundation , where the order established a new convent with the support of the military governor Bugeaud . In 1846 Dom François-Régis was elected abbot there. After resignation in 1854, he returned to France and went to Rome as Procurator General of the Trappists at the Holy See . In 1879 he resigned due to illness and died the following year at a relative's château in Montbeton. His remains were brought to Staouëli and buried there.
