François Carrard

François Carrard (* 1938 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss lawyer , notary and sports official . From 1989 to 2003 he was the General Director of the International Olympic Committee .

Life

After graduating from high school in Lausanne, he was an exchange student at John Muir High School, Pasadena (California) , USA, where he also graduated from high school . He studied law at the University of Lausanne and completed this with the graduation to the Dr. jur. from. After an internship in a trust company (Lausanne, 1962) and in law firms in Stockholm (1963–1964) and Lausanne (1965–1966) passed the examination for the Bar Association of the Canton of Vaud and has since worked as a lawyer in his own law firm, specializing in corporate law , Banking and financial market law, sports and media law (including in the CAS ), international arbitration courts and alternative dispute resolution as well as inheritance law. Legal advisor to the IOC since 1980, in 1985 he regulated the dissolution agreement of IOC director Monique Berlioux and financing agreements for Juan Antonio Samaranch ; from 1989 to 2003 he was Director General of the International Olympic Committee, but kept his office. Back in 2002, he silently resolved the bribery scandal in connection with the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City for the IOC . He is vice- chairman of the board of directors of the Montreux Jazz Festival , the IOC media company and supervisory board (chairman) of a large number of public companies. In 2015 he was commissioned by FIFA to analyze the bribery scandals. Due to his experience, his language skills and his financial independence, he is an ideal candidate.
