François Migoret-Lamberdière (born August 28, 1727 in Lassay-les-Châteaux , † January 21, 1794 in Laval , Mayenne department ) was a French priest who was sentenced to death during the French Revolution and beheaded with the guillotine . He is venerated as a blessed in the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

François Migoret-Lamberdière was the son of André Migoret, Sieur de la Lande, Sieur de la Lamberdière, bailiff in Lassay, and his wife Marie Cosseron. He entered the Franciscan order in 1751, and in 1752 he became a seminarian in Domfront . The sacrament of holy orders he received in 1753 and was then vicar and director of the small parochial school in Oisseau in Mayenne . In 1777 Migoret-Lamberdière became pastor in Rennes-en-Grenouilles near Mayenne. Paralyzed after a stroke, he was able to stay in his parish until 1792 after taking the oath on the civil constitution of the clergy , which he later revoked. From 1792 he was held with thirteen other priests and a few nuns in the Patience monastery in Laval. After all religious practice was banned in France from January 9, 1794, François Migoret-Lamberdière and his confreres were indicted and convicted on the morning of January 21, 1794 by Migoret-Lamberdière's former pupil Jean-Baptiste Volcler . Before the Revolutionary Commission, Migoret-Lamberdière recognized his former student and accused him emphatically of ingratitude and disloyalty.

On the same day the fourteen priests were by guillotine executed . Their bodies were buried in a meadow on Croix Bataille outside the city. The choice of the date January 21st was no coincidence, rather the intention was to mark the anniversary of the death of Louis XVI. to celebrate".

Aftermath

The remains of the fourteen priests were exhumed in 1816 and transferred to the Notre-Dame church in the Avesnières district of Laval. On June 19, 1955, Pope Pius XII spoke . blessed the fourteen martyrs of Laval .
