François de Montmorency, seigneur de La Rochepot († August 21, 1551 in Péronne ) was a French nobleman and military, lieutenant-général or governor of Paris , Île-de-France , Picardy and Artois .

Life

François de Montmorency was the third son of Guillaume de Montmorency († 1531), Seigneur d ' Écouen , Chantilly , Montjoy, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine etc., and Anne Pot († 1510), Dame de La Rochepot , Comtesse de Saint- Pole . His older brother was Anne de Montmorency († 1567), Marshal of France (1522) and Connétable of France (1538). He inherited the La Rochepot and Châteauneuf lordships from his mother, which were owned by the Pot family .

In the Battle of Pavia on February 23 and 24, 1525, he - like King Francis I - was taken prisoner.

François de Montmorency married on October 15, 1525 Charlotte d'Humières, 1524 Dame d'Offemont, de Mello , d ' Ancre et de Bray-sur-Somme , daughter of Jean d'Humières, Seigneur d' Humières , and Françoise Le Josne de Contay. The marriage remained childless.

He was Lieutenant-General of Picardy and Artois. On February 10, 1538, he was appointed Gouverneur et Lieutenant-général à Paris et en l'Île-de-France by King Francis I , the office was confirmed on April 12, 1547 by King Henry II . He held the office of governor until his death, as a successor - his nephew Gaspard II. De Coligny - was appointed on September 9, 1551, 19 days later.

François de Montmorency died on August 21, 1551, his wife Françoise d'Humières died on August 15, 1558 in Paris. Both were buried in the Prieuré Sainte-Croix d'Offemont in the Forêt de Laigue northeast of Compiègne .
