Fran Bagenal

Frances Bagenal (born November 4, 1954 in Dorchester , Dorset , England ) is a British astrophysicist , geophysicist , author and university professor who lives and works in the USA .

Life

Bagenal completed her studies in physics and geophysics at the University of Lancaster in Lancaster in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree . She then went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for further studies in the same year . There she received her PhD in Earth and Planetary Sciences in 1981 . In the following years she worked as a researcher both at her alma mater and in London. Since 1989 she has been a professor at the US University of Colorado Boulder , where she has headed the department for astrophysical and planetary sciences since 1999 .

Bagenal's main research interests are the physics of plasmas in space and the magnetospheres of planets. She has worked on various research programs, including the plasma science experiment of the Voyager program, the Galileo and Deep Space 1 programs . She is also a member of the team for the New Horizons mission to the planet Pluto and the Juno mission to the planet Jupiter .
