Frances Ann Lebowitz (born October 27, 1950 in Morristown , New Jersey ) is an American writer .

Life

Frances Ann Lebowitz is of Jewish descent. After graduating from high school, she worked in several jobs, then as a columnist for Warhol's Interview magazine . She then worked as a journalist for Mademoiselle . With Metropolitan Life (1978) and Social Studies (1981) she published two collections of sardonic essays. Both were later republished in 1994 with a new preface as The Fran Lebowitz Reader . She has been working for Vanity Fair magazine since February 1997 .

In the television series Law & Order she played the judge Janis Goldberg from 2001 to 2007 and later also in an episode of the spin-off series Criminal Intent - Verbrechen im Visier . She was also seen in the role of a judge in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013.
