Frances Wayne
Frances Wayne , actually Chiarina Francesca Bertocci (born August 26, 1919 or 1924 in Boston , Massachusetts , † February 6, 1978 there ) was an American jazz singer.
Wayne began her career in New York as the singer in a band of saxophonist Nick Jerret and shortly afterwards worked with Charlie Barnet , with whom she recorded an album in 1942 . In 1943 she became a member of Woody Hermans Band and married the trumpeter and arranger Neal Hefti . In 1946 both left Herman and went to California, where Hefti formed his own band.
In the following years Wayne worked as a singer with Hefti's band, as well as with Hank Jones , Milt Hinton , Jerome Richardson , Richie Kamuca , Al Cohn , John LaPorta , Billy Bauer and others. Wayne has recently been rediscovered: The Warm Sound of Frances Wayne / The Jack Wilson Quartet was released in 2000, and Mr. and Mrs. Music with the Neal Hefti Orchestra in 2006 .
