Francisco José Maldonado Collante , Maldonado for short (born June 2, 1981 in San Fernando , Cádiz ) is a former Spanish football player .

Player career

The beginnings

Francisco Maldonado comes from the youth of the Spanish tration club Betis Sevilla . From 2002 to 2003 he played in the B team, in 2003/04 he made his debut in the first division team. After a good season in the B team, he was loaned to third division club AD Ceuta in 2004/05 . There he scored seven goals in 36 games and was therefore a regular. The following year he was awarded again - to the second division promoted Lorca Deportiva . With Lorca, he almost made it through to the first division. The season went well for him too, scoring 13 goals in 26 games.

Return to Betis Seville

After two years with other clubs, Maldonado came back to Betis Sevilla in 2006 . There he competed with the newly signed German national player David Odonkor for a regular place. In the end, he got 15 missions. When Betis upgraded in the summer of 2007 and changed the squad under the newly signed coach Héctor Cúper , Maldonado was loaned to the first division relegated Gimnàstic de Tarragona in the Segunda División . After the end of the season he moved to first division promoted Sporting Gijón .
