Francisco Mora

Francisco Mora (born May 7, 1922 in Uruapan , Michoacán , † February 22, 2002 in Cuernavaca ) was a Mexican artist.

Life

In 1938 Francisco Mora received a scholarship to study art at the Art School in Morelia and Agriculture in La Huerta, Morelia. From 1941 to 1945 he studied at the “La Esmeralda” art academy . From 1941 to 1965 Mora belonged to the Taller de Grafica Popular (Workshop of Folk Graphic Artists, TGP). From 1949 he was an art teacher in various evening schools and worked as a magazine and textbook illustrator for the Mexican Ministry of Education. A central theme of his artistic work is the situation of the Mexican miners (mineros). He had three sons with his wife Elizabeth Catlett . In 1953, Mora's works were presented for the first time in a solo exhibition in Mexico City . In 1957 Mora received the first prize in a competition of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes , and in 1971 the art medal in Bratislava . In 1974 his works were exhibited in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
