Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla

Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla (born October 4, 1607 in Toledo , † January 23, 1648 in Madrid ) was a Spanish playwright. He wrote his two main works, Del Rey abajo ninguno and No hay Padre siendo Re y, in the 1640s.

Life

According to tradition, Francisco de Rojas was born in Toledo and studied at the university there and at the University of Salamanca .

Works

Zorilla's works appeared between 1640 and 1645 and inspired numerous European playwrights of the 17th century. His most famous piece, Del Rey abajo ninguno , also appeared under the title Garcia del Castanar . The piece No hay padre siendo rey inspired Jean Rotrou for his Venceslas (1647), Donde hay agravios no hay zelos and El amo criado influenced Paul Scarron's Jodelet ou Le Maître Valet . Entre Bobos anda el juego was the model for Don Bertrand de Cigarral (1651) by Thomas Corneille . Obligados y ofendidos inspired Les Généreux Ennemis (1655) by François Le Métel de Boisrobert , Les Illustres Ennemis by Corneille and l 'Écolier de Salamanque by Scarron.
