Franco Campana (* 1954 in Eraclea , Italy ; † November 25, 2017 in Cologne ) was an artist and intermittent television presenter . A larger audience than he was Hütchenspieler Salvatore in the RTLplus telecast Pronto Salvatore known.

biography

Campana came to Germany at the age of 16. He studied from 1974 to 1982 at the Department of Art and Design at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, among others with Dieter Kraemer and graduated after 18 semesters with a master's degree. From 1982 to 1988 he worked as a freelance photographer and illustrator .

Through a chance private contact, he met the RTLplus entertainment director Jochen Filser, who offered him a job for the station because of his shell game skills. He then appeared, beginning with the first broadcast of Pronto Salvatore on August 28, 1988, until 1991 regularly in his parade role as Salvatore shell player.

From 1995 Campana worked mainly as a painter in Cologne, but played sporadically as a supporting actor in cinema and television films. In 1998 he played the ice cream seller Antonio in the comedy Freundinnen und other Monster . In 2004 he appeared again as a shell player in tv.nrw's program .

Campana was a guest in several television shows on commercial and public broadcasters, including Margarethe Schreinemakers and Harald Schmidt . Until recently he lived as a freelance artist. In collaboration with the Ravensburger Galerie 2106 , his last major work cycle was created as an homage to the painterly tradition of Italian Mannerism. This was presented under the exhibition title Paragone in dialogue with the photo series Silent Confrontation by Berlin photographer Phil Dera from September 9 to October 18, 2017 in Ravensburg.

Campana had had diabetes for a long time . Most recently, the unmarried chain smoker suffered from a severe cold . Franco Campana died childless on November 25, 2017 of kidney failure in the St. Marien Hospital at the Kunibert monastery in downtown Cologne .
