Frank-Michael Schonert (born August 30, 1951 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

The trained machine fitter Frank-Michael Schonert moved from the former regional league team Heider SV in 1974 to the newly founded 2nd Bundesliga at 1. SC Göttingen 05 . In the first game the striker was successful as a goal scorer and in the following years he was the goalscorer of the Göttingen team. Soon afterwards, FC Bayern Munich showed interest in Schonert. Although the clubs were already in agreement in October 1974 - a transfer fee of 330,000 marks was in the room - the change did not take place due to the player's susceptibility to injury, as attested in a health test. Contrary to Schonert's assertion that he was now really motivated, his form curve then showed a bit downwards. On the 22nd matchday he was also given a red card, which resulted in a suspension of eight weeks.

After a total of 12 goals in 27 games and a 10th place in the table for his team in the North Season, he went to Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga for the 1975/76 season for 300,000 marks . For Fortuna, he played six Bundesliga games that were to remain his only. He was substituted on in five out of six games and failed to score. In the fall of 1975 he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen and thus back to the northern season of the second division. There, just in the second year, he again demonstrated his scoring qualities. Against his ex-club Göttingen 05, he managed the first of three hat tricks in his professional career in 1976/77 . Schonert, who was Leverkusen's top scorer in both seasons (9 and 17 goals), was committed in 1977 by the Offenbacher Kickers , who were competing in the South Season . After a year, the FC 08 Homburg station followed , but it wasn't until 1979, now at SC Viktoria Köln , that he had a similarly good haul of goals as last time in Leverkusen. After a cruciate ligament rupture, Schonert had to end his career. His last game for Cologne in the second division dated September 6, 1980 and recorded a substitution in the 36th minute.

He then retrained as a physiotherapist and works in this role at the Evangelical Hospital Cologne-Kalk (status: 2008). From 2005 to 2011 he held the same position at SV Bergisch Gladbach 09 .
