Frank Augsten (born August 17, 1958 in Apolda ) is a German agricultural scientist and politician ( Alliance 90 / The Greens ). He was state spokesman for his party in Thuringia and from 2009 to 2014 a member of the Thuringian state parliament ; since 2017 he has been acting president of the Thuringian State Agency for Agriculture (TLL).

Career

Augsten passed his Abitur in 1977 and completed an apprenticeship as a precision optician at Carl Zeiss from 1977 to 1978 . After military service as a military driver with the NVA , he worked from 1980 to 1986 as a driver and feed manager for the Thuringian Zoopark Erfurt , then from 1986 to 1989 as a cattle breeding advisor at VEB Tierzucht Erfurt and after 1989 as a cattle breeding advisor at the Thuringian State Administration Office. Parallel to his professional activities, he completed a correspondence course in Agricultural Sciences (Diploma in 1993 at the Humboldt University of Berlin ) and in 1997 with the work the organization of cattle in the district of Erfurt from 1945 to 1989 also at Humboldt University doctorate .

Since 1980 Augsten has worked for the GDR Kulturbund in the field of animal and environmental protection, and since 1991 he has given lectures on agriculture, organic farming, nutrition, genetic engineering and development policy. Among other things, he held guest lectures on organic farming and genetic engineering at the universities of Leipzig, Dresden, Magdeburg and Oldenburg and has been a lecturer for organic animal breeding at the University of Kassel , Witzenhausen site , since 2001 .

From 1999 to 2009 he was the managing director of the association for organic farming "Thuringian Ökoherz eV". When he started working as a member of the state parliament in 2009, Augsten was a member of the board until the beginning of 2015.

In 1991 Augsten joined the Greens and was a member of the state board in Thuringia from 1997 to 1999 and from 2003 to 2004. In the 1999 European elections he ran for 12th place on his party's national list. In the 2004 state elections , in which the Greens (as in 1994 and 1999) failed at the five percent hurdle, he ran for second place on the state list. In 2006 he was a candidate for the office of district administrator in the Weimarer Land district . From 2007 he was - together with Astrid Rothe-Beinlich - state spokesman for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Thuringia. When the party succeeded in re-entering the state parliament after 15 years in the state elections in 2009 , Augsten moved into parliament with fourth place on the state list. There he was deputy parliamentary group leader of his party. He was also a member of the Equal Opportunities Committee and the Committee on Agriculture, Forests, Environment and Nature Conservation.

At the state party conference of the Thuringian Greens in November 2009, Astrid Rothe-Beinlich and Frank Augsten did not stand for election again as state spokespersons. Her successors were Madeleine Henfling and Dieter Lauinger .

For the state elections in Thuringia in 2014 , he did not stand for election again and thus left the Thuringian state parliament.

Since July 2015, Augsten has been working in the Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture in the staff unit as Head of Division M1 (fundamental issues, strategic planning). In March 2017 Augsten was appointed acting president of the Thuringian State Agency for Agriculture (TLL).
