Frank Briegmann (born August 31, 1967 in Rietberg ) is a German music manager and President Central Europe of Universal Music Group International (UMGI) and Deutsche Grammophon as well as Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Germany. He is now in charge of the major label's business in Germany , Austria , Switzerland , Italy , Greece, the Nordic countries , the Benelux countries and Eastern Europe as well as Deutsche Grammophon. He is a member of the global UMG Executive Management Board and the three-person management body for Europe.

Life

After completing his business administration studies at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Frank Briegmann began his career in 1995 as a strategy consultant at the Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) in Munich , where he rose to Senior Vice President International in 2002 after several positions. In this position, he was responsible for marketing all international artists from foreign BMG labels in Germany.

In 2004 Frank Briegmann moved to the top of Universal Music Germany and thus became the youngest head of a major label in Germany. In 2010 he also took over the management of the Universal Music national companies in Austria and Switzerland as well as the global classical music label Deutsche Grammophon. In 2013 he was appointed President Central Europe, which expanded his area of responsibility to include the territories of Northern and Eastern Europe. At the same time, he was admitted to the UMGI International Management Board and, in 2015, to the UMG Executive Management Board, the music company's global leadership circle. In 2016, Universal Music companies in Italy and the Benelux countries were assigned to his division.

Frank Briegmann also led Universal Music through the sales crisis in the music industry, which was triggered by the digital transformation at the turn of the millennium and only ended in 2013 with a phase of new growth. In doing so, he proved to be a critic of a restrictive distribution policy and instead relied on digital business models and the strength of his own range. Frank Briegmann says: “Once the consumer has made a decision, there is no point in opposing it. It can also be reduced to one word: customer orientation. ”Later he adds:“ In the music industry ecosystem, the players can only be successful together - artists, labels and digital platforms. You are not a competitor, but a partner. "

Frank Briegmann is a board member of the Federal Association of the Music Industry and on the supervisory board of media.net berlinbrandenburg. He has a seat on the Advisory Board East of Deutsche Bank , on the Board of Trustees of the C / O Berlin Foundation and the Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation, and on the Advisory Board of Betterplace.org . He is also a member of the advisory board of Björn Ulvaeus ( ABBA ) co-founded Pop House Sweden, a company that deals among other things with the global evaluation of the ABBA brand.
