Frank Cebulla (born July 23, 1962 ) was a soccer player at 1. FC Magdeburg , for whom he played in the GDR Oberliga , the highest East German soccer class.
FCM and DFV careers
Cebulla became a member of 1. FC Magdeburg in 1970. After he had outgrown his junior age and completed his training as a mechanical engineer, he was accepted into the squad of the junior league team for the 1980/81 season. On March 20, 1982 he played in the encounter Sachsenring Zwickau - 1. FCM as a substitute for Joachim Streich, his first game in the GDR league. After he was used in five other first division games in the following weeks, the 1.78 meter tall striker officially moved up to the squad of the first men's team at the beginning of the 1982/83 season.
Although he was used twice in the youth national team in 1983 , he had to wait four seasons before he had fought for a regular place in 1986/87 with 25 point games. On April 29, 1987, he completed a qualifying game for the 1988 Olympic football tournament against Portugal (0: 0) with the GDR Olympic team and in mid-May of this year another test match against the ČSSR (0: 1). Then his performance curve sank again to the lowest point in the 1989/90 season, in which he was used in only nine league point games. It was not until 1990/91 that he played his way back to the starting line-up with 19 missions, meanwhile converted into a defensive player.
With 10th place in the last season of the GDR Oberliga, the FCM missed their entry into professional football, so that Cebulla had to compete with the Magdeburg team from 1991 in the amateur Oberliga Nordost . There he had a secure regular position as a defender until he stepped down from competitive football in 1996. Cebulla played his last competitive game for 1. FCM in the championship game 1. FC Schwedt - 1. FC Magdeburg (3-2) on May 11, 1996. He had a total of 259 competitive games for the 1st team, of which he played 139 graduated in the GDR Oberliga and 89 in the amateur league. There are also 25 national and six European cup games.
Further career
At the end of his career, Cebulla played from 1996 to 1998 at SV Irxleben in the sixth class state league North Saxony-Anhalt. Frank Cebulla remained connected to football even after his playing days. Most recently he was the trainer of the Magdeburg clubs SG Handwerk (until 2002) and SV Arminia (state class). For the 2011/12 season, Cebulla took over the coaching position at the Magdeburg state class representative TuS 1860 Neustadt, which he gave up in November 2011.
