Frank Hörnigk (born April 24, 1944 in Frankfurt (Oder) ; † January 30, 2016 ) was a German literary scholar and university professor .

Life

After training as a steelworker, Hörnigk studied German and art history at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1973 he received his doctorate from Georg Büchner with a study of the connection between revolutionary practice, revolutionary-democratic ideology and the aesthetic program . In 1975 he co-founded the literary magazine Temperamente , but was dismissed without notice in 1978. In 1979 he got a party case that ended with a stern reprimand. In 1981 he completed his habilitation with a dissertation B on the topic of history in drama: studies on the problem of history and understanding of history in the more recent GDR drama, on aspects of inheritance and the appropriation of pieces from world socialist literature by contemporary theater . From 1982 to 1988 he was a dramaturgist at the Dresden State Theater .

From 1984 he worked as a lecturer at the Humboldt University . In 1988 Hörnigk was appointed associate professor and in 1990 full professor in the German Studies section. In 1987 he was visiting professor at the University of Paris VIII . In 1993 there was a new appointment to the chair for modern German literature at the Humboldt University. In 2008 Hörnigk retired . He was a member of the PEN Center Germany , scientific director of the Arnold Zweig complete edition and editor of the Heiner Müller series of works, among others .

Hörnigk lived with his wife, the literary scholar Therese Hörnigk (* 1942), in Berlin-Rahnsdorf . He died in 2016 of complications from a heart attack.
