Frank Kelly (actor)
Frank Kelly (* 28. December 1938 in Blackrock , County Dublin as Francis O'Kelly ; † 28. February 2016 ) was an Irish actor .
Life
Frank Kelly was one of six children of Charles E. Kelly and Cathleen Kelly. His father was a cartoonist and the founder of the satirical newspaper Dublin Opinion . Frank Kelly studied law at University College Dublin and was active in student theater there. From the early 1960s he worked as a journalist for the Irish Press , the Irish Independent and the TV magazine RTÉ Guide . He also worked as a scribe for comedians Jack Cruise , Cecil Sheridan and Jimmy O'Dea .
Kelly got his first film role in 1969 in Charlie Dusting Millions ( The Italian Job ) as a prison guard. With the work for RTÉ telecast Newsbeat began his work on television. From 1970 to 1982 he appeared in the news and satire series Hall's Pictorial Weekly . On the radio he worked for the Glen Abbey Radio Show . He also appeared in the children's series Wanderly Wagon , for which he also wrote screenplays. His character Gobnait O'Lunacy , created by him, released a single in 1984 under the title Christmas Countdown , which reached number 26 in the UK charts and made it possible for him to appear in Top of the Pops .
Kelly was best known in Ireland and Great Britain for his role as Father Jack Hackett in the 1995-1998 television series Father Ted ; his exclamation there “Drink! Girls! Ass! Feck! ”Describes the character of the role quite well.
Kelly had film roles in Rat , Evelyn, and Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie . He appeared in the television movie The Deal and the soap opera Emmerdale .
Frank Kelly was being treated for colon cancer and skin cancer . In 2015, he announced that he had Parkinson's disease. He had been married to acting teacher Bairbre Neldon since 1964. The couple had two sons and five daughters.
