Teenage Head is a Canadian punk band from Hamilton, Ontario . They are often referred to as the Canadian Ramones due to their simple musical style .

Band history

Teenage Head was founded in 1975 by school friends Frank Kerr, Gord Lewis, Steve Mahon and Nick Stipanitz. The name comes from the Flamin 'Groovies' 1971 album Teenage Head . In May 1978 the single Pictures My Face was released on Epic Records in Canada. This single was also released on the German market via Bellaphon . A little later than the Ramones, they profited from the emerging punk scene and quickly made a name for themselves in the Canadian punk scene. In 1978 they played at the Last Pogo Festival in Toronto on December 1, 1978 , which was ended by the police after a song by the Teenage Heads and ended in chaos.

Her self-titled debut album was released in 1979. Frantic City followed in 1980 , which could be distributed by Attic Records on a larger scale and made her known outside of the country's borders. After an appearance in the well-known live club The Forum in Ontario, riots broke out that were in the media across the country and ensured that no more concerts could take place at the venue for years. A US tour had to be canceled due to an accident involving Gord Lewis who broke his back in a car accident. In 1982 the band appeared in the B-movie Die Klasse from 1984 , with a young Michael J. Fox in a supporting role. They played the songs Ain't Got No Sense and Alimony there .

Gord Lewis was out for a while, and so the Teenage Heads played with various guest guitarists in local clubs again. In 1982, after Lewis' recovery, the album Some Kinda Fun was released. This album was also very successful, but caused criticism from the band's hardcore fans because of its smooth production and beach boys influences. With the 1983 EP Tornado , the band switched to MCA Records . Due to the contract with the US label, they had to rename themselves Teenage Heads to prevent sexual associations ( Head is a slang term for fellatio in English ). The 1984 live album Endless Party was released again under the old name.

After the commercially not very successful album Trouble in the Jungle , Frank Kerr got out and was briefly replaced by Dave Rave (actually Dave Desroches), who recorded electric guitar with Teenage Head in 1988 . Kerr tried his hand at a solo career with changing line-ups. In 1996 he got back in, but drummer Nick Stipanitz left the band and was replaced by Mark Lockerbie. After the 1996 album Head Disorder , the group fell out with their manager and went through some time-consuming litigation.

It wasn't until 2008 that the band returned and released a new album with Marky Ramone on drums. On October 16, 2008, Frank Kerr died of head and neck cancer .
