Frank Launder (born January 28, 1906 in Hitchin , Hertfordshire , England , † February 23, 1997 in Monte Carlo , Monaco ) was a British screenwriter, film director and film producer.

Life

Frank Launder switched to writing after completing his civil service training. From 1936 began a long-term collaboration with Sidney Gilliat . Together or alternately on each other's projects, they wrote scripts, directed and, after founding their own production company, also took on production responsibility. One of the best-known films from the early years of their activity was A Lady Vanishes , directed by Alfred Hitchcock , for whom they wrote the script, as well as several films by Carol Reed . Over the years, Launder's work, which at the beginning also included crime films and period dramas, was increasingly limited to comedy material.
