Frank Lewecke

Frank M. Lewecke (born February 2, 1966 in Gütersloh ) is a German painter and illustrator.

Life

After childhood and youth in Gütersloh, he studied biology at the University of Bayreuth and switched full-time to painting after graduating and has been working as a freelance artist in Nuremberg since 1995 . He became known to a broader public through the filming of his works by Bavarian television for the night program of Space Night . The 45-minute program "Space Art 2" has been broadcast on Bayern3 and BR-alpha since 1997 .

In 2001 the German new edition of the novel series Der Wüstenplanet by Frank Herbert was published by Heyne Verlag with its cover images. This was followed by two nominations for the Kurd-Laßwitz Prize as the best science fiction graphic for the cover motifs of the novels "Das Haus Harkonnen" (2002) and "Butler's Jihad" (2004). In 2005 Lewecke was awarded the Clarke Bradbury Prize for his painting “Africa Tower”, internationally awarded by the European Space Agency ESA , the Swiss Maison d'Ailleurs Museum for Science Fiction and the OURS Foundation.

Lewecke's works are thematically assigned to the genres of space art , science fiction and fantasy . Large canvas paintings have been completing the artist's repertoire since 2004. His underwater worlds and Asian aquatic still lifes under the JTao project build a bridge to contemporary art. Lewecke is a member of the International Association for Astronomical Artists (IAAA) and the ver.di visual arts specialist group.
