Frank Petzold

Frank Petzold (born May 18, 1951 in Zwickau ) is a German composer , conductor and jazz pianist .

Life

Petzold was born in Zwickau in 1951. From 1968 to 1974 he studied composition , conducting and piano at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . From 1974 to 1977 he worked as Kapellmeister and choir director at the Theater der Altmark in Stendal. He also worked from 1977 to 1979 as a drama conductor at the Magdeburg Theater . From 1977 to 1981 he was a master student for composition with Rainer Kunad at the German Academy of the Arts in Berlin. From 1981 to 1994 he worked as a freelance composer and pianist in Magdeburg and Cottbus . He composed an opera , orchestral , chamber , stage and jazz music . As a companion he appeared u. a. with Gina Pietsch in the Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt . Since 1990 he has been regional chairman of the German Composers' Association in Cottbus. In 1994 he became drama bandmaster at the Cottbus State Theater . Since 2001 he has been a lecturer in music theory and jazz piano at the Lausitz University of Applied Sciences in Cottbus.
