Heinz Flohe documentation

Frank Steffan achieved particular public interest nationwide in 2015 with his documentary " Heinz Flohe - He danced with the ball ". The film deals with the life and career of the professional footballer and world champion from 1974 Heinz Flohe , who died under tragic circumstances in 2013. Steffan had followed Flhe's career intensely and was of the opinion that the footballer was undervalued in retrospect, since in his eyes he had revolutionized German football with its groundbreaking technology. Steffan, who also works as a director, was able to win over football greats such as Günter Netzer , Wolfgang Overath , Franz Beckenbauer , Jupp Heynckes , Toni Schumacher , DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach and many others for the film project .

The statements of the prominent contemporary witnesses confirm Steffan's opinion. In the documentation, Jupp Heynckes describes Flea as an "artist". Günter Netzer emphasizes that there was no one in Germany who achieved Flea's technical skills: "He was so incredibly good, did things that none of us could do, not even the really great players in Germany." A statement made by Jupp Kapellmann , 1974 world champion and three-time Champions League winner with Bayern Munich, is supported: “Today, Heinz Flohe would break the 100 million mark or, in general, any transfer record.” For him, this is outside of any discussion. Franz Beckenbauer describes Flohe in the documentation as "one of the best technicians in the world" of his time.

At the international football film festival 11mm in 2015, the film reached second place in the audience award out of 65 productions that made it into the festival, making it the best German contribution in this category.

Nationwide, the press was very positive about the film, as the 1970s football dealt with in the documentary evokes a feeling of football romance due to its non-commercial orientation.

The Double 1977/78 - Documentation

Inspired by the success of the Flea film, Steffan produced the DVD documentary " Das Double 1977/78 - A journey through time with 1. FC Köln" in 2017 . The film traces the 1977/78 season in about 90 minutes. This season, 1. FC Köln, under the leadership of legendary coach Hennes Weisweiler, achieved its greatest sporting success to date: winning the DFB Cup and at the same time winning the German championship in one season. The sometimes highly dramatic events are brought to life again by numerous original play scenes. The most important contemporary witnesses of this unusual epoch have their say from a current perspective, including a. the then active FC players Harald "Toni" Schumacher , Harald Konopka , Dieter Müller , Wolfgang Weber or Herbert Zimmermann as well as the club's manager at the time, Karl-Heinz Thielen and the then vice-president, Klaus Hartmann . In addition to the sporting side, the zeitgeist was also highlighted, 1977/78 was a special era for socio-political reasons. At precisely this time, the city of Cologne was considered a European art metropolis that was on a par with New York . Cologne was also the party city par excellence, the city pulsed, people spoke of "Swinging Cologne". The years 1977 and 1978 were also a long-lasting turning point. The kidnapping of employer president Hanns Martin Schleyer in September 1977, in the immediate vicinity of the Müngersdorfer stadium, marked a political break in all of Germany in this " German autumn ". These were eventful times, in every respect and the film made it its business to integrate these social and political perspectives in addition to the sporting side.

At the 11mm international football film festival in 2018, the film won the audience award out of more than 60 productions that made it into the festival from over 200 entries from all over the world.
