Frank Swift Bourns
Frank Swift Bourns (born September 2, 1866 in Dexter , Michigan , † March 17, 1935 in Seattle , Washington ) was an American ornithologist and doctor.
Live and act
Frank Swift Bourns was born in Dexter, Michigan in 1866 to Alfred Francis and Lucy Swift Bourns. In 1890 he graduated with a Master of Science degree from the University of Michigan . In 1896 he received his doctorate in medicine. From 1907 to 1910 he worked in the Seattle Health Care Department.
From 1890 to 1892 he accompanied Dean Conant Worcester on an expedition to the Philippines . In its 1894 published work Preliminary notes on the birds and mammals collected by the Menage Scientific expedition to the Philippine Islands described Bourns and Worcester several newly discovered species of birds including the Mindorokuckuck , the two-color Mistelfresser , the Sulu bleeding-heart , the dark ear dove , the Negrosdschungelschnäpper and Mindorodrossel .
Dedication names
Richard Crittenden McGregor named the Bourns parrot oak ( Loriculus philippensis bournsi ), a subspecies of the Philippines bat parrot ( Loriculus philippensis ), in honor of Bourns in 1905.
