Penny Fuller

Penny Fuller (born July 21, 1940 in Durham , North Carolina ) is an American actress .

Life

Fuller attended Northwestern University in Illinois before moving to New York to pursue an acting career. In 1962 she made her first appearance on Broadway in the production The Moon Besieged , which was only performed once. From the following year to 1967 she was the replacement for leading actress Elizabeth Ashley in Neil Simons Barefoot in the Park and from 1966 to 1969 the replacement for the character Sally Bowles in Cabaret . Between 1970 and 1972 she played alongside Lauren Bacall in the musical version of Everything About Eva . She has been nominated five times for the Tony Award for her performance at the theater .

She had also had occasional television roles since the mid-1960s, but it wasn't until the 1970s that the roles increased there. She appeared as a guest star in various television series such as The Six Million Dollar Man , Ironside and FBI . In 1982 she received an Emmy Award for the television play The Elephant Man . She was nominated for another five Emmys in later years, including the television play The Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, based on the Tennessee Williams drama, and guest appearances on series NYPD Blue and Emergency Room .

Her comparatively few roles in feature films include Conspiracy in the Shadows , The Untouchables and The Beverly Hillbillies Are Going! .
